Happy Anniversary!

It has been a while since I posted anything so I’m going to try and go back and fill in some of the blanks. I made this card for my husband for our 4 year anniversary in May. Most of our wedding was handmade by us and our friends which gave it a really special feeling.

So I wanted to make a card which fits in with the themes from the wedding and matched the stationery I had made for the big day. For this, I cut a piece of the pearlised gold card I  used for the wedding invitations down to a size slightly smaller than my backing card. I set the card on top of a border of white and silver lace pattern Washi tape. Using the same punch I bought from hobby craft to make the save the date cards, I cut out Butterflies on red and silver glitter and mirror card.

I arranged the butterflies onto the Gold pearlised card and added coloured rhinestones to the butterflies and the card stock to form a trail which I embellished with the Nuvo metallic drops.

I added the lawn fawn Sophie’s sentiment: happy anniversary to a small piece of the gold card and backed this onto the Washi tape so it formed a border, threading a piece of silver ribbon between the layers and attaching it to the main card.

I’m really happy with how things have turned out both with the card and the husband who I’m very lucky to have. Let me know if you like the card or if you try to tie the things you make back in with events and past projects.

Till next time make something with love

Outstanding occasions: Happy Purrthday

My outstanding occasion was one of my best friends birthday. I made Sophia this crazy cat card as she has a couple of fur babies herself and I know she would appreciate it. I thought I would kill two birds with one stone and make it my entry for the Lawn Fawnatics third challenge DSC_1150

To make my card I used the new meow you doin’ stamp and matching die set as well as the year two stamp and die set.

I started by stamping out all of my elements using memento black ink  onto my Neenah white card stock  including all the cats and there accessories. From the year two set I stamped out multiple copies of the presents and party hats.

I coloured the cats and there accessories according to cats both Sophia and I have had using my trusty NUVO alcohol markers. Then using there respective dies cut the images out using my bigshot.

I created the background by cutting a piece of flowery wrapping paper to the size of the card and attached it to the front face. I decided I wanted this to be the border so for my main party scene. I cut out a DSC_1151slightly smaller piece of card stock. Using a low tack tape I then marked off section of the bottom and blended together distress ink colours  to form a rainbow band. I sprinkled this with water droplets to give a nice blotchy effect.  I repeated this  pattern for the flap of the envelope and added some paw prints to the top so it looked like a cat walked across it.

I then assembled the card by arranging the elements into a cat party scene adding them to the front of the rainbow bordered card piece using 3D foam tape. I stamped the sentiment in the colourful border using archival black ink and added a few paw prints and hearts as finishing touches before adding the scene to the card face. inside the card I stamped the sentiment  wishing you a pawsome day! I really hope she likes it.

Father in laws football card

My father in law lives and breathes football! He’s mad about it and his favourite club is Fulham he even used to work for them so when I had the idea for this card I thought it would be perfect for him.

Farther in laws cardI made the background  by firstly  stamping footballs in versa mark clear ink and heat embossing them using clear embossing powder. Then blending over it a combination of lucky cover, peacock feathers and cracked pistachio distress ink.

I die cut the footballer and football from the tattered lace footballer set out of Neenah white card and coloured them in using my Nuvo alcohol markers. When I do cards containing people or animals I try to base them on people I know so the cards are a bit more personal. This one is made to look like my father in law and I decorated the kit to match the current Fulham strip.

I die cut the grass strip using the lawn fawn grassy border die and then die cut 2 large stitched rectangles. I lined up the grass border with the stitched rectangle die in order to get a continuation of the pattern along the side and border edges. I heat embossed the sentiment using NUVO embossing powder in jet black to get a nice dark glossy image.

I was pleased with how it turned out and it definitely put me in the in laws good books. what do you think? Don’t forget to check out my other birthday cards including the 3D effect balloon card I made recently.

3D Effect Balloon Card

I love the idea of this card, I made it for my boss at work . The card  took inspiration from a card I saw Jennifer McGuire make. It uses a  technique which incorporates both layering die cuts and also the negative space they leave to make an interesting 3D effect.

Boss cardTo start, I covered some plain white card stock with different coloured Washi tape. Then die cut two of each size of the three balloons. Next I arranged the different sizes and colours into a bunch that I was happy with and took a photo for reference. Then using the photo I chose which of the balloons I would like to be set back into the card and die cut those balloons out of Blue Card stock  trimmed to fit the base card. Lining the die cut negative space up with the card I traced the balloons onto it and covered the area with Washi tape so that it would show through the negative space. I attached the Blue card stock to the base card with 3D foam tape to create the recessed look and layered other balloons over the top using the  foam tape to complete the look.

Using the Lawn Fawn year five stamp and matching die set I stamped and diecut  presents onto Neenah white card stock  which I coloured in with my Nuvo markers. I hand tied each of the balloons to the presents using white sparkly wool I had left over from another project and secured them with a drop of  liquid adhesive. I attached the presents to a strip of green card that I attached bottom to look like grass.

The  banner  was made by stamping the  happy birthday sentiment using Versamark clear ink  and heat embossed with Stampendous Stamp N Bond heat activated adhesive. Then while the adhesive was still warm it was covered in Nuvo sparkle dust in cinnamon spice to give nice glittery lettering on the black card. Once the lettering was in place I cut V shapes into each side of the trip to make the banner tails and added this below the presents.

This was quite an easy card to make, but the results look really striking, I think that this is quite a versatile technique which depending on the colour scheme used can be uses to make a variety of distinct looking cards for a people of all genders and ages.

Till next time make something with love.

Make it Farnborough 2017

This weekend I went to my first craft fair; I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was very excited to be going. As it turned out I was lucky enough to get two for the price for one as Make it the paper crafting show ran along side Knit & Stich it which catered for all my sewing, crochet and knitting needs. The Show was based at Farnborough airfield and housed over 100 exhibitors which meant I was spoilt for choice (great for me but not so great for my wallet!). As someone who is relatively new to card making it meant I could pick up lots of the everyday basic tools I need but have so far been borrowing off friends.

I was excited to see so many different stamp designs and particularly loved those by Little Claire and Stamposaurus craft supplies, both of which produce good quality stamps handmade in the UK . Something else which caught my eye were the NUVO alcohol markers. I have been looking for a less expensive Copic alternative for a while so I  just had to get them to try.

There was also a lovely range of wool and fabric on offer but my favourite stall was Toft shop who had a collection of animal amigurumi crochet projects including an Afghan Hound which I definitely should have now regret not buying (however they have an online store so I can always fix my mistake).

Overall it was a really good day out and will definitely be going back next year.  I think I was really quite restrained in my purchases as the choice available was quite overwhelming. Here are some of the exciting things I bought:

I think my next big purchase will be a stamp positioner like the Tim Holtz Stamping platform, MISTI or the Hampton Art Stamp Perfect once my stamp collection has expanded a little. Does anyone already own one of these and if so would you recommend it?

Do you enjoy going to craft fairs, or do you prefer to shop online?

Till next time, make something with love.

Valentine’s Day Card 2017

My husband and I don’t really celebrate this holiday too much as even in England it has become really commercialised so this year we decided to just send cards which we personalised in some way. cropped-cropped-card.jpgI wanted to share the card I made for my husband with you.

Its a simple Box card with embossed red and black panels. The die cut hearts  are layered and decorated  with ink, jewels and glitter and foil. To attach the hearts to the box  I used strips of clear acetate  which attached to card folded into a Z shape and suck to the  inside the box . This allowed me to position the hearts at different heights and depths giving the allusion of the hearts bursting from the box and floating in mid air.

Overall I am really pleased with how this card turned out and I know Hubby was really impressed with it too. I hope you have a lovely valentines day whether you spent it with people you love or doing something you love.
